UNPLUG AND CONNECT
Put down your mobile and digital devices-- and spend more quality time with your child! One-on-one
interaction with a child can make a significant difference in his/her personal and educational development.
Get the facts
Development Starts Early
Eighty five percent of a child’s critical brain development occurs by age five, because of this, it’s important to engage in quality-rich time with young children.
Children are Missing Out
The increased use of mobile and digital devices has led young children to miss out on valuable, one-on-one adult interaction and taken time away from important family activities, which stimulate developmental growth.
Quality Time Matters
Putting down your mobile device and spending quality time talking, reading and/or singing with your child helps him/her grow emotionally, intellectually and socially.
Ways to Engage with your Kids
Your voice helps you connect with your child and also helps him/her learn. Everywhere you go, talk about what you see, pointing out key objects and symbols that are visible. Ask questions during key moments of the day such as meal, play and bath time, and be sure to answer the questions too.
Reading out loud to your child helps build their vocabulary and literacy skills. Point to pictures and characters on the page to help add more color. Allow your child to turn the page to ensure he/she is engaged and participating.
Patterns and repetition in song can help your child grow and connect with you. Sing during everyday activities like car rides and/or bath time. Sing songs that have numbers, letters and/or rhyming patterns.
Take the pledge
It’s time to Unplug and Connect! Take the pledge to unplug from your mobile and digital devices and connect with your child by spending quality time together every day.
